Matthew Early

Vice President for Campus Services

Matthew Early, Vice President for Campus Services, oversees a division of over 800 dedicated, diverse and hardworking individuals on Emory University's Druid Hills campus, as well as the Oxford, Grady, Briarcliff and Clairmont campus locations. Campus Services provides Planning, Design and Construction services which include campus planning, project management and interior design and graphics services; Facilities Management services including building maintenance, custodial services, engineering and utilities services and grounds & hardscape services; Transportation and Parking Services which is responsible for parking and moving Faculty, Staff, Students and visitors throughout the Emory community; Public Safety which is responsible for police, fire safety and EMS services as well as access control, Real Estate Services which include the management of executive park, LLC ; Customer Relations and Support that oversees our Work Management Center; and the Office of the University Architect which ensures continuity in the design  and aesthetics of our built environment.

Campus Services is firmly committed to being on the leading edge of sustainability initiatives and is recognized nationally for its dedication to sustainability.  Emory holds the distinction of having one of the largest inventories by square footage of LEED-certified building space among campuses in America. Thirty of our buildings are LEED Certified, 13 gold, 13 silver and four certified;  Emory was one of four local employers honored for its longstanding efforts to promote transportation programs that include: a shuttle service that carries 3.4 million riders annually and is fueled in part on biodiesel from Emory’s cooking oil, a bike and car sharing program, and a successful carpool/vanpool program. The first water reclamation system in the United States was built at Emory’s main campus, capable of reclaiming over 140 million gallons annually, nearly 40% of Emory’s water demand for heating, cooling and toilet flushing. 

Mr. Early came to Emory in August, 2010. Before joining Emory, Mr. Early worked at Columbia University in New York where he served as the vice president for facilities operations, overseeing building maintenance and repair, grounds, engineering services and commissioning, sustainability, energy management and environmental compliance.

Mr. Early is a professional civil engineer and a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering, with a minor in construction management from the University of California-Berkeley, and he has a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of La Verne.
